The Russians Came Knocking A Josh Glassman Book Book 1 edition by KB Spangler Romance eBooks
This is the latest book in the "Digital Divide"/"A Girl and Her Fed" universe, and the characters and writing style will be familiar to those who have already been exposed to those works. Josh Glassman is the most entertaining character in this world, and so it's high time that there was a story about him. It is very apropos that it is a pulp-style, as he lives a pulp lifestyle.Readers who are not familiar with the universe the novel is set in may not recognise the characters and all the concepts, but they are mentioned enough that such readers should be able to keep up with the story.
The story has enough intrigue, romance, and action that it can switch between them and keep things interesting. The writing style is amusing when it should be, and keeps the story flowing nicely. I found that I could not put this down willingly once I had started. Based on my familiarity with K.B. Spangler's other works, I would have happily paid a standard novel price, and was happily surprised to see this was only 99 cents. Readers of all kinds (18+ as there is a bit of smut) would do themselves a service by picking this up.

The Russians Came Knocking A Josh Glassman Book Book 1 edition by KB Spangler Romance eBooks Reviews
So this is certainly a lot of fun for the price, particularly if you are familiar with KB Spangler's work and characters. This is a combination of thriller and erotica, and while both aspects are well written, it felt unfinished to me at the end. Not that things weren't wrapped up neatly, but you expect a few more twists and turns in this sort of story. The sexual aspects were more detailed than would be found in your average story, but seemed less extensive than one would find in a full-blown erotica. There were also a number of things that just kind of threw me for a loop, like when the police crime scene investigation seems to transform into a drinking party with no questions asked. Maybe it is supposed to be an aspect of Josh's particular aura, but it kind of came out of left field and was presented with no explanation. Perhaps these things were supposed to be aspects of Josh as an unreliable narrator, but there were probably less confusing ways of doing so. In any case, this remains a fun book with a good bit of humor, but not as well executed as Digital Divide was.
I started reading this as the author published chapters online, then decided I'd just wait until finished version was out and get it from . I'm glad I did. The final version has some important editing and is a better story because of it.
This is the second book from this artist/author and I can only hope it's the beginning of a beautiful trend) This is a pulpy, sexy romp that manages to fulfill the formulaic expectations and still be fresh and exciting to read. Sex scenes are hard to pull off with grace and decent, funny dialog may be even harder but she manages to do both. If you haven't heard of this author, check out Digital Divide (Rachel Peng), her first full length novel and the amazing comic she has been writing/drawing for years now, A Girl and Her Fed. The last book focused on another agent, and I don't know if she will continue to explore all of these characters that are aspects of the very well thought out world introduced through the comic, but I hold out hope.
An amusing continuation of the Cyborg universe as envisioned by KB Spangler. If you read "A Girl and her Fed" online, this is a must read. Otherwise it is a good predictor of the future of cybernetic enhancements.
As a regular reader of K.B. Spangler's webcomic "A Girl and Her Fed" I've come to expect good things with storytelling, and this novella did not disappoint in the least. It's fast paced, well-developed in both terms of plot and characters, with descriptive action scenes that don't seem too over-the-top, and some very well-written and thought out sex scenes that managed to be, well, intensely erotic without being gross. Best of all there is plenty of humor throughout, which has always been a trademark of AGAHF, blending seamlessly alongside the drama. Well worth the read even if you've never seen the comic.
I ususally like KB Spangler's writing, but in this book Spangler is experimenting with a different style than they normally use.
This experemental style is extremely meandering, focuses on details that feel pointless and irrelevent, and was unable to keep my attention long enough to finish it. I was honestly disapointed, but understand that a successful author needs to be able to experiment and to tell things in different voices. Spangler has been great at developing unique and compelling voices for their protagonists (Rachel Peng for example)
But this specific protagonist's voice just doesn't work at this juncture.
I'm a big fan of "A Girl and Her Fed" - the webcomic universe that this book is based in, so don't pretend that this is entirely unbiased.
The story is a pretty simple affair. Without too many spoilers - someone is trying kill a tenant in Josh Glassman's building. He has a few problems with his condo, but puts them aside to aid the tennant. Josh offers protection and things go from there in a series of interesting plot twists and turns. The book, if it was a website, would be rated NSFW for a few of the chapters that are included.
Overall, this is a good story and it fits well in the universe. It doesn't feel quite as polished or developed as "Digital Divide", the first novel effort by Ms. Spangler. The writing is a little more generic and not as exciting. The sex chapters, which fit extremely well with the character of Josh, feel a bit forced. I know it was a big part of the draw according to the previews posted on the website and they are fun to read. Much better than a number of other scenes of a similar nature that I have read. It is only their insertion that feels forced.
On the whole, I strongly recommend this as a purchase. It's a good read and completely and totally worth the price especially for fans of Ms. Spangler's universe and A Girl and Her Fed.
